A Turnkey Solution: An Atrium Remodel
Landscaping has a huge impact on your guests as they enter your building, and tropical plants can be used to your advantage. Atrium plants function in many ways, such as creating a theme or direct traffic. Plants can fill a void, terminate or frame views, create visual screen, create space and plants provide scale, add texture and color, plants reduce noise and add warmth.
Interior landscape design solutions for atriums and office lobbies often involve large trees and tropical plants because of the open areas and often high or vaulted ceilings. However, atriums often present landscaping challenges that designers must take into consideration when evaluating the interior space.
The scale of the indoor plants must utilize the building space. If the tropical plants are too large or don't have room to grow, the overall effect will look crowded or overwhelmed. On the flip side, plants that don't have enough height will enlarge the area too much, making it appear empty or cold.
Light levels can become a concern. Typically, higher light levels encourages faster growth of the plant. Too much growth could soon result in an overcrowded atrium. Tropical plants do need some light, however, so there must be a light source for healthy indoor plants.
Office plants prefer consistent temperatures. Atriums and office lobbies are usually high traffic areas. People stream in and out buildings, which lets in cold drafts in the winter. Also, office ductwork can vent air that is too cold or too hot for some tropical plant specimens.
This local Twin Cities interior atrium design is a familiar example of our complete landscaping design process. After the office and landscape evaluation, our team considers the function of plants, landscape challenges, and the building's architectural elements for a vivid new landscape.
Our evaluation and design process confirmed that the current landscaping wasn't living up to its potential. The atrium's landscape was monochromatic and the light levels were too low for the large trees, which have grown thin and tired.
Plantscape's concept for the interior atrium was to plant the under story with lively plants of contrasting colors and foliage textures. Large trees are essential to the project. They pronounce the atriums height and add varying depths to the landscape.
In order to visualize the final landscape design, we provide our proposal material for the design. Our aerial plans communicate the tropical plant placement while our plant specifications narrate the plant specimens. Our digital imaging completes our ensemble of proposal material, demonstrating the proposed landscape results with a realistic photo perception.
The atrium's landscape installation was underway with our experienced team completing the project. Weekly horticultural plant service continues for healthy plants.
Plantscape aggressively mastered the atrium's redesign with landscaping results full of color and texture. Tall trees provide scale and add warmth, while small plants terminate views and create a visual screen between correlating offices. A dry stream bed was added to increase interest. Our design landscaping challenges were matched, and our client was equally satisfied with their landscaped atrium.
