Preserved Washingtonia Palm Trees

Preserved Washingtonia Palm Trees are not plastic nor silk palm trees. They are Fan palms harvested from their natural habitats in southwestern United States and northwest Mexico. Preserved palm trees have been manufactured for hotels, casinos, restaurants, shopping malls, water parks, and office atriums and are used to accentuate tropical dècor indoors.

The palm tree is classified into two distinctive species: Washingtonia Filifera and Washingtonia Robusta. Ornamental Washingtonia Filifera palms develop an undercoat of (fire retardant) thatch, after new growth emerges and old fronds die. These old fronds create a barrel shaped trunk appearance. The preserved Filifera's crown is composed of large palm leaves, and is very loose and open. The preserved Robusta is equally dramatic, bearing narrow trunks either shaven or adorning the dead thatch. Washingtonia Robusta palms also wear a loose crown, but the fronds are smaller than those of Filifera.
